TechPolis is organizing, in partnership with SGoldstein Consulting, the conference “Mobile Money Brazil” in São Paulo at the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) on August 25 and 26, 2010. The two-day conference will focus on the fast-moving mobile money market in Brazil, as well as on international experiences relevant to Brazil. Considered a laggard until very recently in financial transactions over mobile phones, Brazil is quickly catching up. Only 40% of Brazil’s 195 million-strong population has a bank account. Alliances between mobile operators and financial institutions are beginning to emerge, demanding technology solutions and new business models and making Brazil the hottest Latin American market for financial transactions over mobile handsets.  read more >

TechPolis engaged by GSM Association (GSMA) to develop spectrum policy for the Middle East

The GSM Association (GSMA), the world trade association of mobile operators, has engaged TechPolis to work with governments and the private sector on spectrum policy development for mobile broadband in the Middle East, with emphasis on 4G spectrum bands such as 2.6 GHz and the “digital dividend” during the next 12 months.

Preparing Mobile Networks for the World Cup of 2014 In Brazil and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics

TechPolis’ president, Ricardo Tavares, is co-author of an important paper discussing how Brazilian mobile operators and government authorities should prepare for the telecommunications needs of the 2014 World Soccer Cup in Brazil and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. The paper, developed in partnership with the GSM Association (GSMA) and CPqD, a Brazilian technology think-tank, opened up the debate in Brazil on how the telecommunications sector should prepare to serve well 7 million tourists expected in Brazil for the 2014 World Cup, leaving a permanent legacy for Brazilian citizens at the same time.
